Comprehensive Land Register - new triggers

Two new events will be added to the current triggers for compulsory first registration of title when the Land Registration Act 2002 (Amendment) Order 2008 comes into force on 6 April 2009.

These are:

The Order has been made following a consultation by Land Registry, on behalf of the Lord Chancellor, between November 2007 to February 2008.

The new triggers, together with our continued policy of encouraging and facilitating voluntary first registration, will help Land Registry achieve our longer-term strategic objective to create a comprehensive land register for England and Wales. Creating a comprehensive land register is important because it will mean every registered landowner has the best possible legal protection and buyers have access to good title information, making buying and selling easier for everyone concerned.

Here you’ll find details of the changes brought in by the Order together with background material on the consultation.
